Players participate in practice drills, informal and modified games (similar to shinny or pond hockey). Players are soon proficient enough to have fun while
they play. Although the main emphasis is on fun and progressive skill development, the Learn to Play Hockey Program also allows youngsters to experience:
* Fair play
In addition to developing players’ hockey skills and promoting physical fitness, our Instructors encourage initiative, stimulate interest in the sport, and instill a desire for continued participation.
Class begins October 18, 2017
Class will meet on Wednesdays and Sundays, times TBA
*Learn to play- Each week includes a review of skills learned in Learn to Skate and the introduction of new skills such as snowplow stop, one-foot glides,
backward O's and forward strides. From this solid base, the fundamental skills of skating, stick handling, passing and shooting can be properly taught. Classes meet two times per week, 45 minute training sessions.
*At the end of 20 weeks of training, players typically are ready to join either our house or travel leagues.
Ice Hockey equipment is not as expensive as many assume…….much of
the gear can last a few years before having to purchase new. Each participant
must have the following equipment before they take to the ice: Hockey helmet & mask, shoulder pads, elbow pads, hockey gloves, hockey pants, shin guards, ice skates, hockey stick. If you need any of the above, equipment rental sets are available for all participants. These sets do not include skates or a stick so each player will need to provide their own.
